Why LinkedIn Doesn’t Engage Me: 90 Second Question

Help me answer the question: Why is it so hard to get people to engage using LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is probably the most widely used un-used social media tool out there! In a handful of popular tools, LinkedIn surely takes the award for being the most boring.

Is it because LinkedIn is more of a business networking tool than social? And do people like to be social above all else?

Then why are some professionals more confortable signing up for LinkedIn than Facebook?!

I have LinkedIn, facebook, activerain, MySpace, twitter and naymz (I think that’s it). MySpace was the 1st account that I opened. It was great to reconnect with long lost friends and make my profile look cool, but it failed to remain relevant to me. It seems to appeal to indi artists and young people (younger than me). Then came facebook. It was like MySpace, but cleaner and slicker with applications and games. Facebook as evolved and has broad appeal to people of all genres. LinkedIn was touted to be like facebook, but for business professionals. It’s not very easy to navigate, though. It’s a little confusing. I guess it’s supposed to be a living resume of sorts with all your contacts giving some sort of credibility to your professionalism, experience and/or skill set. In this economy with unemployment what it is, you’d think that LinkedIn would be huge and have more appeal, but it doesn’t. LinkedIn is out of the way and not convenient; as is MySpace, activerain, etc. Almost all of my contacts in LinkedIn are also my friends on facebook. Facebook is a “one stop shop” of sorts. Facebook can basically accomplish what the others try to do and often facebook does it better.

to sum it up, facebook is extremely dynamic with interesting content while the others aren’t so much
